So, first, the cryptocurrency market has rebounded, rebounded in 4Q significantly, a bit more in 1Q, at the same time, role has expanded with the AP on the bitcoin ETFs. So how did the economics change for Virtu as the number of activities you participate in expands? So you started with being a market maker in crypto spot and a market maker in crypto companies and miners, and now you are both a market maker in bitcoin ETFs as well as the AP on these same crypto ETFs. So does your position in one area make the other areas more profitable? And I guess the ultimate punch line here is how much bigger is the crypto revenue opportunity for Virtu today versus other initiatives like options, ETF block and fixed income in the near term growth in crypto broadly?

Douglas Cifu: Yes, thank you. Good morning. That's a great question. And to give you credit, you've been asking about crypto for two years. So I finally have a great answer for you. And thanks in large measure to some of these forced regulatory changes in the United States. I mean, this has become, I don't want to be too dramatic, but a bit of a transformational moment for Virtu with regard to this asset class, certainly, and we've seen the results already in the first quarter where we're generating meaningful six-figure daily P&L from this asset class.

Shares of Virtu Financial (NASDAQ:VIRT) climbed 2% today after the Pulte Family Office, an activist shareholder, publicly urged the company to consider selling itself. The Pulte Family, founders of PulteGroup (NYSE:PHM), one of the largest homebuilders in the nation, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current management of Virtu Financial and its CEO Doug Cifu.

In a press release, William J. Pulte, Chairman of The Pulte Family Office, criticized Cifu for not focusing on expanding the business and spending time on non-core activities. The Pulte Family has suggested that Virtu Financial would benefit from ownership that could unlock its true potential, either by a third-party private equity firm or another public company. The statement implied that without a change in direction, Virtu Financial should and would be sold, and the Pulte Family is prepared to assist in this transition.

The Pulte Family's dissatisfaction stems from attempts to work constructively with Virtu Financial's management, which they feel have been unfruitful. They have indicated a willingness to initiate a proxy contest or take other necessary legal actions if the company does not explore the option to sell. This pressure from a significant shareholder has investors reacting positively, reflected in the stock's uptick during the trading session.

While the Pulte Family's press release serves as the source of this development, it is important to note that no official action has been taken by Virtu Financial's Board of Directors regarding a potential sale. Er werd gezegd dat er 20% extra waarde zit in Virtu bij een verkoop.
Wel opvallend, benieuwd of dit ook private equity ogen op Flow gooit, die in vergelijking met Virtu nog goedkoper lijkt.

Voor de liefhebber wat uit de call bij de VIRTU jaarcijfers en dan vooral uit de Q&A antwoorden:

De vertrekkende SEC baas (Gerster) krijgt een sneer en de nieuwe (Atkins) bejubeld. De oude zou politiek bedrijven ipv data driven beleid.
November was de ommekeer in Q4 en daarna is alles gelijk of zelfs beter gebeleven.
De investeringen in 2024 en 2025 in 24/7 crypto zo geeft hij toe zijn eigenlijk alleen maatregelen om personeel ook in het weekend en de avond te laten werken. Ze zijn daar nog niet mee gereed volgens de teksten dan. Alleen "native" crypto kunnen ze service 24/7 zegt hij.
Over marketshare een zelfde verhaal als bij FT, dat kunnen ze wel willen maar impact op P&L. Jane Street en Hudson pakken wholesale nu en Virtu trailed daar bewust...
ETF-blocks is waar ze op verdienen (ik weet net goed wat dat is ...)

O en alle vragen waren "good questions" uiteraard ;)

Dat is wel typisch Amerikaans. Heb ooit een reactie te proberen te posten op een SA-artikel. Ik benoemde gewoon de zaken waar ik het niet mee eens was en gaf daarbij argumenten. De reactie werd geweigerd als zijnde 'too negative'. Daarna hetzelfde nogmaals gepost, maar dan met een inleiding waarin ik aangaf het artikel met plezier te hebben gelezen, het interessant vond en er veel van had opgestoken. Toen was het goed.

Ik vind dit zelf nogal omslachtig en hypocriet gedoe, maar je ziet dit steeds meer. Ook in Nederland. Is een beetje standaard in alle feedbackcursussen: eerst een compliment geven en dan mag je pas 'mogelijkheden tot optimalisering' noemen.

Volgens mij was die gast van Citadel ook nogal tegen de democraten, daarom verhuisde hij ooit van Chicago naar Miami (ook beter weer :) )
