SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Intel Corp. says its fourth-quarter profit ballooned as the personal computer market blasted back from the recession.

Computer shipments grew more sharply than expected in the quarter, and Intel supplies the vast majority of PC microprocessors. That helped Intel deliver net income of 40 cents per share, compared with 4 cents a year ago. Sales climbed 29 percent to $10.6 billion.

Analysts expected a profit of 30 cents per share and $10.2 billion in revenue, according to Thomson Reuters.

Intel is the first major technology company to report its results, which are seen as a barometer for the PC market and technology spending in general.

Succes ermee.
