Ebola-related shares rally in premarket as Texas nurse tests positive

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of companies that are part of the growing effort to find an effective treatment for the deadly Ebola virus were sharply higher in premarket trade Monday, after a nurse who cared for the Ebola patient who died in Dallas last week tested positive for the disease. Among the gainers, penny stock Ibio IBIO, +57.82% surged 77% to $2.61, on reports it may become part of the government's effort to ramp up production of ZMapp. The experimental drug was developed by privately-held Mapp Biophamaceuticals and used to save the lives of two American health workers who were infected but recovered. Shares of Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. TKMR, +5.00% maker of the TKM-Ebola drug, rose 5.8%. Shares of Hazmat-suit maker Lakeland Industries LAKE, +15.89% rose 22.3%. Shares of Alpha Pro Tech APT, +12.52% which makes face masks, climbed 17%.
