(Euronext Amsterdam) - Versatel Announces First Quarter 2006 Results

Note:As a result of the sale of Versatel Germany in October 2005, Versatel Telecom International will report all 2005 comparison numbers excluding the impact of Germany in order to derive a meaningful historical comparison for its ongoing operations in The Netherlands and Belgium. For avoidance of a doubt, where applicable, in this earnings release, numbers from prior periods have been adjusted, unless specifically indicated otherwise.
Financial Highlights:
· First quarter 2006 revenues increased by 15 percent to Eur 103 million from first quarter 2005 revenues of Eur 89 million. First quarter 2006 revenues increased to Eur 103 million or by 2 percent compared with 4Q05 revenues of Eur 101 million.
· Gross Margin as a percentage of revenues in 1Q06 declined to 51 percent from 55 percent in 1Q05 and from 52 percent in the fourth quarter of 2005.
· EBITDA for 1Q06 was Eur 14 million compared with Eur 20 million in 1Q05 and Eur 13 million in 4Q05.
· Versatel’s net result from continuing operations for the quarter ended March 31, 2006, amounted to a loss of Eur 23 million compared with a profit of Eur 1 million in 1Q05 and a loss of Eur 35.7 million in 4Q05.
· Capital expenditures (Capex) in the first quarter 2006 were Eur 34 million, compared with Eur 36 million in the first quarter of 2005 and Eur 45 million in 4Q05.
· At March 31, 2006, Versatel had approximately Eur 77 million in cash on its balance sheet, compared with approximately Eur 260 million at March 31, 2005 and approximately Eur 107 million at the end of the fourth quarter of 2005.
