Digital printing 'will dominate the print market by 2020'

Punch Graphix subsidiary Xeikon has launched its latest digital label press, the Xeikon 3000, completing its product portfolio for the label and packaging industry.
The 3000 joins the Xeikon 3300, which was unveiled earlier this year at drupa 2008, and is described by the company as the 3300’s “entry-level counterpart”.
Like the 3300 model, the Xeikon 3000 offers 1200 dpi at four bits per spot, and boasts the same performance concerning format flexibility of substrates (7.9 inches to 13 inches) and substrate weight flexibility (27 lb text to 16-point board stock).
However, the 3000 is designed more for label printers who want to enter digital printing but don’t need the speed and productivity level of the 3300, which is intended for short to medium print runs and just-in-time jobs, with the 3000 offering a top speed of 31.5 feet per minute and a monthly duty cycle of 1.5 million feet.
The 3000 is also geared towards label converters wanting to focus on niche applications such as paperboard packaging or textile transfer printing.
"It's no secret that the label market has changed significantly over the last few years”, said Paul Willems, chief marketing officer at Punch Graphix. “Global growth, enhancements in product development, legal and environmental standards, as well as brand awareness, create new challenges for the label industry."
"Xeikon has taken a stance to surpassing these standards.”
