Bam Construct’s appointment to a 48€m second Hull & East Riding priority schools batch reflects its ability despite “significantly tighter budgets”, it said today.
Bam has been appointed as ‘panel member’ for Withernsea High School, which is the sample school for the batch.
Paul Cleminson, pre-construction manager for Bam Construction, said: “We’re delighted to be selected for the schools. This reflects well on how Bam has been striving to create inspirational learning environments despite significantly tighter budgets.”
The school construction is subject to planning permission. If granted, Bam would hope to start on site by December. The school is around 60 per cent new build and 40 per cent refurbishment.
As well as Withernsea High School, the batch includes Wolfreton School and Sixth Form College, Neasden and Foredyke Primary Schools.
The other three schools are subject to final agreement being reached through the ITT process (invitation to tender). If this is successfully achieved they would start on site early in 2015.
Construction News revealed that Kier had been appointed to the 58€m London 2 batch, replacing Bam Construction on five schools it was originally awarded in May 2013.
Bam was forced to hand five out of eight schools from its original 95€m London batch back to the EFA in April 2014, having failed to reach an agreement on costs for two of the schools.
All the schools are being built on their existing locations, and include an element of demolition to replace the current buildings.
Bond Bryan are the lead architects for all of the schools except Wolfreton which will be designed by Ryder Architecture’s Newcastle Office. Bam Design and Silcock Leedham are the structural and environmental consultants, respectively.
