BAM Construction is set to start on the 22€m Cheadle Hulme Academy, which will be built on a site next to Cheadle Sixth Form College, in November this year.
The contractor has been selected as construction partner by client Laurus Trust, while Mace is acting as project manager on the scheme, which will house a new primary and secondary school.
The project, which has been designed by architect IBI, will be built on a site bordering the existing Cheadle Sixth Form College and Bruntwood Park, off North Downs Road and Cheadle Road.
Alongside the new school facilities, BAM will also build a new sports hall and a full-size 3G football pitch, both of which will be available for use by the local community.
The contractor will also undertake highways improvement works along Cheadle Road and provide two new pedestrian access routes to the school.
Improvement works will include a widening of Cheadle Road, and the junction with Orrishmere Road and Cheadle Road will also be widened to include separate right and left turning lanes.
The school is due to open in September 2018, although plans are yet to be approved for the project.
Construction work is due to complete in January 2019 after a 15-month build period
