Ethiopia’s EABC to buy over 600,00 tonnes of urea
LONDON (ICIS)--The state-run Ethiopian Agricultural Business Corporation (EABC) is understood to have awarded 632,000 tonnes of urea its 1 September import tender, several suppliers confirmed today. The cargoes will be shipped in November 2020 to April 2021. The tender was originally for 710,728 tonnes (+/-20%) of urea on 1 September, for shipment in October 2020 to March 2021. Arab Gulf/Egyptian producer Fertiglobe was awarded 320,000 tonnes and Dubai-based trader ETG/AgriCommodities was awarded 312,000 tonnes for Saudi and Chinese product. South Korean trader Samsung is understood to have been awarded 100,000 tonnes, likely from China. “This is the plan. The final shipment will depend on the the Letters of Credit (LC),” said a supplier. The cargoes are to be delivered in 14 lots to Djibouti and and Sudan. Ethiopia extended offer validity twice, by a week and then by 10 days. It issued awards on 16 October. The previous tender on 21 October 2019 was awarded on 19 November 2019. Fertiglobe was awarded 450,000 tonnes and Cyprus-based trader Midgulf 125,000-150,000 tonnes at $260.63-278.88/tonne FOB in 11 lots.
