Shares of U.S. spirits makers decline premarket after U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy says alcoholic drinks should carry cancer warning labels.
"The direct link between alcohol consumption and cancer risk is well-established for at least seven types of cancer ... regardless of the type of alcohol (e.g., beer, wine, and spirits) that is consumed," including cancers of the esophagus, mouth, throat and voice box, the statement says.
Jack Daniel's maker Brown-Forman falls 1.1%, Corona beer maker Constellation Brands 1.5% and Molson Coors 1.1%. European spirits makers also fell - Davide Campari , Pernod Ricard , Remy Cointreau and Diageo fall between 2.7% and 3.9%
