WOODSIDE Petroleum said today it plans to produce liquefied natural gas from its multibillion dollar Browse project offshore Western Australia from 2017, as the Australian energy company seeks public comment on the proposal.
"Commissioning of the Browse LNG Development is being targeted for 2017 at the earliest, and activities are expected to extend for at least 50 years," Woodside said in its draft Environmental Impact Statement.
A final investment decision for Browse is targeted for 2012, the company said, adding it will take approximately five years to build and commission phase one of the project, which includes an onshore LNG plant at James Price Point.
Woodside is operator of Browse and is partnered by Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Chevron and BHP Billiton.
