Construction company Bam Group Ireland has secured a €30m contract with NUI Galway for the design and construction of a new human biology facility.
Taking up 8,200 sq m, this is a new research and teaching facility for three university departments - pharmacology and therapeutics, anatomy and physiology.
It will be located on the south campus, sitting over four storeys and including teaching and research laboratories, lecture theatres, anatomy and mortuary facilities, offices and other ancillary areas.
Up to 250 people will be employed at peak construction stage and the facility will be completed in July 2016.
BAM Group Ireland is also building a €20m clinical research facility and translational research facility at NUI Galway.
Previously, it delivered the university’s engineering building, which won several awards including Best Educational Building at the Local Authority Members Association awards in 2013.
Formerly known as Ascon, BAM Group Ireland is Ireland’s largest public works construction company, employing more than 2000 people directly and indirectly.
