Petrobras has invited a select group of overseas contractors to tender to supply gas compression modules for six floating production units, attempting to mitigate the delays caused by the cancellation of the previous contract, according to the Brasil Energia news service.
The 24 gas-handling modules were supposed to be supplied by Iesa, a local firm, that company's financial difficulties led to bankruptcy protection proceedings and, in November, the cancellation of the contract.
Failure to supply the modules threatens the production schedules on six FPSOs ordered by a Petrobras-led consortium, in which Britain’s BG is a partner.
Delivery of other modules has been proceeding, and Petrobras had been expected to issue a new tender for the gas modules.
However, contracting options are limited due to the exclusion of 23 local firms due to the ongoing investigations into a bribery scheme at the state-controlled company.
The new tender covers several types of gas compression modules. They will be used on the Lula field, on FPSOs P-66, P-67, P-68 and P-69, and on the Iara field, on the P-70 and P-71.
The new invitation to tender is restricted to a few foreign companies with a proven delivery record asks for delivery within eight months from signature, according to Brasil Energia.
Fabrication is expected to take place in overseas yards, the report said.
Iesa was awarded the contract worth $720 million in 2012 and the group’s investments in a new fabrication facility in southern Brazil was feted by the Petrobras engineering managers at the time.
