In August of this year, Turkey experienced a significant decline in its rebar export volume, according to data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The export volume dropped by 17.6% compared to the same month last year and decreased by 8.5% from the previous month, totaling 305,404 metric tons. This downturn was not limited to volume alone, as the value of these exports also saw a substantial decrease, falling by 17.7% year-on-year and 7.0% month-on-month to $179.14 million.

Despite the sharp decline in August, the overall performance of Turkey's rebar exports for the first eight months of the year showed a mixed picture. From January to August, the country's rebar exports actually increased by 4.7% in volume, reaching 2.21 million metric tons. However, the value of these exports did not keep pace with the volume increase, declining by 5.0% to $1.30 billion compared to the same period last year. This disparity between volume and value suggests a potential decrease in the per-unit price of Turkish rebar in the global market.

Turkse inflatie daalt onder 50 procent

Voor het eerst sinds ruim een jaar.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De inflatie van de consumentenprijzen in Turkije is gezakt tot iets minder dan 50 procent in september. Dat bleek donderdag uit cijfers van het Turkse statistiekbureau TUIK.

De inflatie daalde van 52,0 procent in augustus naar 49,4 procent in september. Dat is het laagste niveau sinds juni 2023. De Turkse inflatie schommelt al geruime tijd op zeer hoge niveaus van 40 tot 80 procent. In september 2023 was de inflatie 61,5 procent en het jaar daarvoor zelfs 83,5 procent.

Op maandbasis stegen de consumentenprijzen in september met 3 procent en vergeleken met het begin van het jaar lagen de prijzen 36 procent hoger.

Turkse rente blijft staan op 50 procent

Al een half jaar geen wijziging.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De centrale bank van Turkije heeft zijn belangrijkste rentetarief donderdag opnieuw ongemoeid gelaten op 50 procent. Dit bleek uit het rentebesluit van de Turkse centrale bank.

Het was de zesde maand op rij dat de rente ongewijzigd bleef. In maart verhoogde de centrale bank de rente voor het laatst, toen met 500 basispunten.

In september liet de onderliggende trend van de inflatie een lichte stijging zien, volgens de TCMB.

"De indicatoren voor het derde kwartaal wijzen erop dat de binnenlandse vraag blijft vertragen en een desinflatoir niveau nadert", volgens de centrale bank.

Het beleidscomité merkte daarbij wel op dat de inflatieverwachtingen en het prijszettingsgedrag risico's blijven vormen voor het desinflatieproces.

De inflatie in Turkije kwam in september uit op circa 49 procent op jaarbasis en daarmee het laagste niveau sinds juni 2023. In augustus bedroeg de inflatie nog zo'n 52 procent.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Turkse centrale bank heeft de beleidsrente gehandhaafd op 50 procent. Dit maakte de centrale bank donderdagmiddag bekend.

De onderliggende trend van inflatie daalde in oktober en indicatoren wijzen op een vertragende binnenlandse vraag, tot een niveau van desinflatie, lichtte de centrale bank toe.

Sinds maart dit jaar staat de Turkse rente op 50 procent en de markt verwachtte vandaag ook geen wijziging.

Het wachten is op een renteverlaging, nu de inflatie afkoelt. Volgens analisten van ING wil de centrale bank eerst meer bevestiging in de cijfers zien.

Bij twee kwartalen van krimp op rij wordt gesproken van een technische recessie. Op jaarbasis groeide de economie van Turkije wel, met 2,1%.

ANKARA (ANP/RTR) - Turkije stelt omgerekend bijna €14 miljard beschikbaar om de economische kloof te verkleinen tussen de zuidoostelijke regio, die voornamelijk door Koerden wordt bewoond, en de rest van het land.

De aankondiging komt op een moment dat de hoop toeneemt op het beëindigen van een decennialange opstand van de verboden Koerdische Arbeiderspartij (PKK) in het zuidoosten van Turkije, evenals de komst van een nieuw leiderschap in het buurland Syrië, dat goede banden heeft met Ankara.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Turkse centrale bank heeft de beleidsrente verlaagd van 47,5 naar 45,0 procent. Dit maakte de centrale bank donderdagmiddag bekend.

"Hoewel de onderliggende trend van inflatie in december afnam, wijzen voorlopende indicatoren op een stijging in januari, in lijn met de prognoses", aldus de Turkse centrale bank in een toelichting. Maar de kerninflatie voor goederen blijft volgens de bank "relatief laag".
