RATIONALE
Original Contract in April was for 288,000 tests per week.
Price per test for governments’ globally was quoted separately at ’10 dollars per test’, which makes the original contract around £2.2 million per week at today’s exchange rate.
The contract had an option to expand the agreement.
The pandemic has worsened considerably and new labs have been opening, as well as a repurposing of the whole lab network, universities, hospitals, clinics etc across the UK.
Most suppliers including Novacyt have been increasing supply to meet demand.
The current supply to the DHSC from PrimerDesign is between 800,000 and 1,000,000 units per week.
Certain suppliers had unreliable assays which were removed from the supply chain.
Unknown whether figures include the latest WinterPlex release.
Novacyt has capacity for significantly more units, at least 10 million tests per month, but thought now to be between 13 million to 20 million per month including the antibody ELISA test.
