St. Stephen's Green Hotel Gets Go-Ahead, While First Starwood Aloft Hotel Set For Dublin
A new 300-bedroom hotel close to St Stephen's Green in Dublin has moved a step closer following Dublin city council handing the project the green light.
In July, British hotel and serviced apartment group Marlin, which is owned by Irish businessman John Corless, approached city planners in the capital with the view of adding an additional 120 bedrooms to the original plans for the development at Bow Lane East.
Now, according to a thetimes.co.uk, the council planners are happy for the project to proceed, stating that the hotel 'would not adversely affect the character of the area'.
Meanwhile, the same website is reporting that Denis O'Brien has agreed a deal to bring the first Starwood Aloft hotel to Dublin.
Starwood Aloft is the group's hip boutique franchise and is expected to operate the new 202-bedroom hotel currently being built at Blackpitts in Dublin 8, which is earmarked to be delivered by building company BAM in 2018.
The new hotel is expected to be the focal point of the a rejuvenation of the Liberties area in the capital, alongside two student accommodation blocks.

Large Investment into €60m St. Stephen's Green Hotel
A number of well-known Irish investors have poured over €7 million into the proposed €60 million aparthotel to be built in Dublin 2.
The hotel, described as budget hotel targeted at short-stay business travellers to the city in the planning application, was granted approval earlier this year. It will be built behind the St Stephen's Green shopping centre.
A number of Irish investors have contributed to the Marlin Apartments project, which is headed by Irish chief executive John Corless, the Irish Independent reports.
A UK company, Marlin provides high-end serviced apartments to business and leisure travellers in London. Originally it planned to build a 195-unit hotel in the city, although that number is believed to be increasing as the firm acquired additional space surrounding the site.
Among the Irish investors are former ESB chief John Shine and former South Midland Construction MD Phelim Moylan.
The planning application said it would help ameliorate the hotel room shortage in the capital, and "ensure the provision of high quality hotel accommodation to support the continued promotion of tourism".
