De Verenigde Staten heeft een akkoord bereikt met het farmabedrijf Moderna over de aankoop van 100 miljoen doses van een potentieel coronavaccin. Dat maakte president Donald Trump dinsdag wereldkundig.

Het is niet de eerste deal die Trump onlangs heeft gesloten. Zo verzekerde de regering zich vorige week van 100 miljoen doses van een mogelijk vaccin van Johnson & Johnson. Dat vaccin wordt ontwikkeld bij dochterbedrijf Janssen in Leiden. De vaccins dienen nog wel goedgekeurd te worden door de verantwoordelijke autoriteiten.

Het ministerie van volksgezondheid in de VS hoopt nog dit jaar een vaccin te kunnen geven aan miljoenen Amerikanen.

Deze prijs valt toch wat tegen voor Moderna. Maar waarom zou Trump meer betalen als ie de boel zelf gesponsord heeft! 15 euro, eerst meende Moderna 60 euro te kunnen ontvangen...

KEY FACTS

The government is spending $1.525 billion on the deal, which amounts to roughly $15 per dose.

Moderna said the government has the option of purchasing another 400 million doses in the future as part of the agreement.

Moderna started late-stage human clinical trials on 30,000 volunteers at the end of July, and has said results may come in October.

The White House has made similar deals over the last few months with other companies developing vaccines, including Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Novavax, AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi.

The U.S. has already given $955 million to help Moderna research develop its vaccine through the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

Moderna shares jumped 11% in after hours trading following the announcement.

They deliver virus genes into leaves, and the plant cells then create protein shells that mimic viruses. In July, Medicago launched Phase 1 trials on a plant-based Covid-19 vaccine in combination with adjuvants from drug makers GSK and Dynavax. If the trial goes well, they plan to start Phase 2/3 trials in October.

The company launched trials for a Covid-19 vaccine in May, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations has invested $384 million in the vaccine. In July the U.S. government awarded $1.6 billion to support the vaccine’s clinical trials and manufacturing.

On Aug. 4, Novavax announced promising results from two preliminary studies in monkeys and humans. Phase 3 trials are expected to start in October.

If the trials succeed, Novavax expects to deliver 100 million doses for use in the United States by the first quarter of 2021. In August, an executive at the company said it could make well over a billion doses a year for worldwide demand.

CureVac maakt grote koerssprong bij beursdebuut

NEW YORK (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - De Duitse biotechnoloog CureVac, die bezig is met de ontwikkeling van een vaccin tegen het coronavirus, kende vooralsnog een succesvolle eerste handelsdag op Wall Street. De onderneming die sinds vrijdag is genoteerd in New York steeg tijdens zijn debuut liefst 203 procent.

De aandelen van de onderneming waren geprijsd op 16 dollar. Op een gegeven moment waren de stukken bijna drie keer zoveel waard. De beursgang bracht 213 miljoen dollar in het laatje. Aan CureVac hangt door de koerssprong momenteel een prijskaartje van ruim 8 miljard dollar.

Onlangs werd nog bekend dat de Britse farmaceut GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) voor 130 miljoen pond een belang van 10 procent in CureVac neemt. In juni werd gemeld dat de Duitse overheid voor 300 miljoen euro een belang van 23 procent heeft genomen in het bedrijf. CureVac is grotendeels in handen van miljardair Dietmar Hopp, een van de oprichters van het Duitse softwareconcern SAP en eigenaar van voetbalclub Hoffenheim.

CureVac kreeg in juni toestemming van de Duitse autoriteiten om zijn experimentele vaccin tegen het coronavirus te gaan testen op proefpersonen. De resultaten uit de eerste testfase worden dit najaar verwacht. Volgens CureVac kan het vaccin medio 2021 op de markt worden gebracht.

Die (forse) daling hebben we net gehad. Was te wijten aan een blunder(per ongeluk expres?) van eoa analist. Gaat wellicht terug naar oude high? We gaan het zien.

Ja breek me de bek niet open. Echt jammer. Ik mis een rendement van 3000 procent! (Ik heb er in het allereerste begin nog even mee zitten spelen, en toen is het Moderna en BioNtech geworden, ook geen spijt van, maar niet zo goed als Novavax.)

Ik hab op Inovio gegokt, heb er wel 80% op gehaald en dan verkocht, AL EEN GELUK! Want die koers is nu een ramp. Hopelijk toch nog een grote stijging bij Nova, who knows! Hier zit meer in
