The rebranding event was celebrated on Thursday evening with the broadcast of a Lady Gaga concert.
The shopping centre specialist Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) celebrated the official rebranding of the Centro in Oberhausen in Westfield Centro yesterday. This makes it the first German mall that the Group is running under its flagship brand and is now to operate on an equal footing with Westfield centers in London, Paris and New York.
Westfield is probably the world's only brand in the field of shopping centers. URW Germany CEO Andreas Hohlmann expects more traction from this, especially at the B2B level: "
There are international retailers who put all Westfield malls on their expansion lists." The official launch was celebrated on Thursday evening with an event for which 1000 customers could register and where a concert by Lady Gaga was broadcast.
Hohlmann sees itself on the right track with its strategy of focusing in particular on large flagship malls.
"Retailers will tend to need fewer shops and sales space in the future. However, he will focus even more strongly on large and high-frequency centers," he is convinced. The Centro attracts 15.3 million visitors per year. Because it has an attractive portfolio, the discussions about rent reductions are also very manageable.
He expects to achieve the same rental income as in 2019 in the course of the coming year. The vacancy rate in the German URW shopping centres remains unchanged at 2%.
