Contractors sought on £640m building frameworks

Two building frameworks, available to Yorkshire, the North East and parts of the East of England and Midlands, are open for tender to a total value of £640m.
Contractors are on call for a YORBuild West framework, worth £400m, serving Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. In the North East, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, a separate YORBuild framework has opened to the tune of £240m. Both cover building works and new housing principally, with some scope for civil engineering works.
The frameworks are split into two lots each. One is for new housing and general building works, including some civil engineering, for projects between £4m and £10m. The other covers new housing developments with more than 25 houses.
Both frameworks are set to run for four years, but could be extended for an additional two years, which YORBuild said would give contractors time to “recoup their significant initial investment” in delivering better construction in line with the government’s Construction Playbook objectives. These include economic regeneration, carbon and waste reduction, training and employment initiatives, training of their staff to new ways of working and utilisation of BIM.
YORBuild added that the frameworks aimed to have greater levels of collaboration between clients and contractors, which may take longer than four years to realise, particularly as some clients might not use the agreements in their early years.
YORBuild is intended to be used by public sector bodies such the NHS, local government and education bodies, as well as third-sector outfits such as housing associations.
Last year, Kier and Interserve were some of the winners on a £1.5bn YORBuild framework in the Yorkshire region, the successor to the YORbuild2 framework, through which Kier delivered the Ponteland school (featured picture). Bam Construction, Galliford Try, Morgan Sindall and Wates also secured spots on two lots of the framework.
Requests to participate in the tender processes must be submitted by 17 September.
