Dutch Inflation Rate Highest Since 1971
The Netherlands' annual inflation rate jumped to 14.5% in September 2022 from 12.0% a month earlier. It was the fastest rise in consumer prices since the series began in 1971, mainly boosted by higher prices in energy. Additional upward pressures also came from prices of housing (30.2% vs 22.7%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (12.7% vs 13.0%), clothing and footwear (7.5% vs 3.3%), furnishings & household equipment (10.1% vs 8.8%), and recreation & culture (4.3% vs 4.0%). The annual core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco increased to a fresh record peak of 5.7% in September from August’s of 5.0%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 2.4% in September, the most in six months, following a 2.0% gain in August.
