Sensex rallies 279 points on global cues
MUMBAI: The BSE benchmark Sensex on Thursday shot up by over 250 points on buying by funds as well as retail investors in heavyweight stocks, triggered by firm global markets.
At 11.45 am, the Sensex was at 17,258.25 points, up by 279.90 points. It ended yesterday at 16,978.35.
On the NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty surged 77.25 points to 5,089.00.
Marketmen said strong trends in the global markets mainly fuelled fresh buying by funds in index-related stocks. With the improvement in the sentiments, buying interest was also seen in mid-cap and small-cap stocks.
Major gainers today were Reliance Industries, Reliance Energy, BHEL, Larsen and Toubro, Tata Steel, Maruti, Grasim Industries, ACC, Sterlite Industries, Hindalco, State Bank of India and Infosys. - PTI
