Ook voor TOMTOM dreigt er komende week een correctiestand, ofwel toppen en corrigeren naar lagere niveaus, rondje winstnemingen dus.....

Dat bedoel ik dus. bij 4.13 schreeuwde hij al "afbouwen!" hoe serieus neem je die gek dan nu nog...? Wanneer er geen correctie komt, schreeuwt hij bij 4.80 "afbouwen", natuurlijk komt er een keer een correctie. Dat weet toch iedereen?! Het gaat om de timing en dat is gewoon erg lastig te bepalen, of beter gezegd, in te schatten.

Weet je wat het is, ik hou gewoon absoluut niet van mensen die zelfverzekerd roepen dat het omhoog of omlaag gaat. Niemand weet welke kant het opgaat, anders zat diegene wel op Hawaï in een hangmat lekker de hele dag te traden. Je kan wel een vermoeden hebben, maar ventileer het dan als mogelijkheid ipv alsof het al een feit is.

Continental Includes Nokia/HERE 3D Navigation in New Infotainment

Continental will unveil its GENIVI-based infotainment platform at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show later this month and the company provided today an overview of the solution that will offer 360° surround view, LTE connectivity, 3D navigation from Nokia/HERE, MirrorLink connection to mobile devices and HTML5 apps.

This is the first automotive customer for Nokia’s GPS navigation system that has been thus far found only on smartphones. Based on the geolocation APIs (Application Programming Interface) from HERE, vehicle manufacturers can also develop their own location-based applications. The system also has associated PC, smartphone and tablet apps to preset the GPS navigation destination before reaching the car.

“Through a HTML5 portal, users can access a whole range of apps“, also said Continental, altough the company does not give more details on these apps.

Continental Includes Nokia/HERE 3D Navigation in New Infotainment Platform
The 360° surround view system, that seems to be one of the highlights of the solution, consists - depending on the size of the vehicle - of at least four surround view cameras, which capture the entire area around the vehicle.

The cameras can be used by the driver to display different perspectives and image sections on the infotainment system screen. They can even change to a bird's eye view on the screen and "float" freely above the vehicle.

But the cameras can also be used remotely, for example if the alarm is triggered the owner can access the camera feeds to look at his car.

Mobile devices can also be connected to the infotainment system using Bluetooth and MirrorLinkTM transmission.

The whole infotainment platform is based on a GENIVI operating system.

Garmin heeft niet eens eigen kaarten (gebruiken Nokia-Navteq).
Het is dus geen probleem om de kaarten af te splitsen en te verkopen aan een grote partij zoals Apple, Samsung of Facebook die er sneller de meerwaarde uit kunnen halen. Vooral in de booming smartphonemarkt en de daarbij tot groei komende location based services.

De kostprijs van de kaarten is €18,-.
De gemiddelde kostprijs van de kaarten van de 3 wereldspelers TomTom, Google en Nokia is €40,--

Voor minder dan de kostprijs zie ik de grootaandeelhouders de kaarten niet verkopen. Dat hoeft ook niet want als Apple of Samsung eigen kaarten gaan maken zijn ze hetzelfde kwijt als Google (€60,-) en 5 jaar bezig.
TomTom zit ook in een prima positie nu het schuldenvrij is, winstgevend ondanks de crisis en nieuwe veelbelovende producten in de markt zet.

AutoNavi Revenue Declines, Marks Transition from Paid to Free Navigation
Today Chinese map maker and navigation/ LBS vendor AutoNavi announced a net revenues $38.2 million for the second quarter of 2013, down from $40.2 million in the second quarter of 2012.?

Gross profit in the second quarter of 2013 was $26.2 million, compared to $30.1 million in the second quarter of 2012. ?

Operating income in the second quarter of 2013 was nil, compared to $9.6 million in the second quarter of 2012. This retreat of operazting income is due on one side to the decrease of revenue in automotive and on the other side the increase of operating expenses.

Operating Expenses Go Up
In comparison total operating expenses in the second quarter of 2013 were $26.2 million, compared to $20.6 million in the second quarter of 2012. Research and development ("R&D") expenses were $12.3 million in the second quarter of 2013, compared to $8.2 million in the second quarter of 2012. Selling and marketing expenses were $8.5 million in the second quarter of 2013, compared to $6.7 million in the second quarter of 2012.

higher salary and benefits expenses and higher number of employees are quoted by AutoNavi as reasons for this increase in operating expenses.

Revenue decline in Automotive Navigation
Net revenues from the automotive navigation market in the second quarter of 2013 were $19.1 million, compared to $24.9 million in the second quarter of 2012 and $15.5 million in the first quarter of 2013.

“The year-over-year change was largely attributable to a decline in the number of copies of digital map data licensed for use with in-dash navigation systems compared to the second quarter of 2012,“ explained AutoNavi.

Mobile and Web LBS
AutoNavi's mobile and Internet location-based solutions business reported $14.7 million in net revenues in the quarter, compared to $11.0 million in the second quarter of 2012.

“The increases were primarily due to the growth in revenues derived from the pre-installation of the Company's premium navigation solutions on mobile phones and the Company's mobile navigation service with China Mobile,“ wrote the company in its press release.

Public Sector and Enterprise Applications
Net revenues from the public sector and enterprise applications market in the second quarter of 2013 were $3.9 million, which was level compared to the year-ago period and down slightly from $4.3 million in the first quarter of 2013. The sequential decrease was primarily caused by a decline in aerial photogrammetry projects due to greater-than-normal rainfall in a number of geographic areas in China.

Fast growing user base for mobile apps
When it comes to statistics of downloads and use of free products AutoNavi is beating all records in the LBS category worldwide.

The company said that its free mobile map application had a total of 137 million users and over 62 million monthly active users as of the end of the second quarter of 2013, compared to a total of 116 million users and over 56 million monthly active users as of the end of the first quarter of 2013.?

In comparison AutoNavi's premium navigation application had been downloaded and pre-loaded on more than 70 million smartphones and had approximately 3 million monthly active users as of the end of the second quarter of 2013.

The company also said that it will provide free user downloads of its premium navigation application on Apple's app store and on all official Android app stores in China starting immediately. AutoNavi said “(it) anticipates this strategic move will deepen the penetration of its mobile products while strengthening the Company's leading position in China's evolving mobile Internet industry.“

Now the company has to work out a strong advertising-based business model to monetize their mobile users.

Voor de smartphone-massamarkt is een advertising-based business model een verstandige zet. Door de samenwerking van Autonavi met giganten als China-Mobile en Alibaba krijgt Google weinig kans in China.

Ze schijnen ook 7 miljoen betalende premium klanten te hebben. Daarnaast zijn ze actief in Automotive. Autonavi is en blijft voor TomTom een interessante samenwerkingspartner. De inkomsten uit het 49% belang in de joint venture stellen nu nog niet veel voor, maar als Autonavi succesvol is komt dat op termijn wel goed. Ook de Chinezen beginnen nu pas net aan hun eerste smartphone en auto.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife and everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. I had to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside that gadget was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-u-lating." You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then if I made a right turn instead. Well, it was not a good relationship...
When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them with me.
Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do fart a lot."

Samengevat de nieuwe of verbeterde funties van IOS7
Geen woord over verbeterde Maps.
Waarschijnlijk durfde men dit nog niet aan gezien de stroom van kritiek volgend op de vorige maps presentatie.
Mogenlijk zit de presentatie van de verbeterde maps er snel aan te komen gezien er wel traffic informatie beschikbaar is in IOS 7 (Notification center)

Liever geen Tom2 in de VW...krijgen al die asociale Passat rijders ook alternatieve routes aangeboden bij opstoppingen...laat dat geboefte maar lekker in de file staan.
