?????? ? ????????
Swedish car brand, Volvo, is planning to close its factory in Uddevalla in 2013, according to a press release from the company Monday.
The press release stated that too few cars are being produced there now to merit continued work at the plant, which has been operating at 65 percent of its capacity. The plant lies nine miles from Sweden's second city of Gothenburg.
The 600 employees will be offered jobs at other Volvo factories in Sweden, for example, in Skövde, Floby and Olofström, however, news agency TT reports that details about how exactly this will transpire are still being hammered out with the union.
Ombudsman for the union, IF Metalls in Bohuslän-Dal, Anneli Ivarsson criticized the decision, telling Swedish Radio P4 Väst that she had not expected the news this afternoon.
"Naturally, it's terrible – not just that so many are losing their jobs, but also for the individuals, themselves."
