GE to Provide Brazil's Largest Distribution Company with Software for Managing Pipeline Data

ATLANTA, GA. - October 10, 2007 : - GE has signed a contract to provide Brazil's largest distribution company, Comgas of Sao Paulo, Brazil, with advanced pipeline data management software through its Energy and Oil and Gas businesses.

This order represents the first sale of GE Energy's recently introduced Smallworld Global Transmission Office 4.1 software platform in Latin America and the first commercial delivery of GE Oil and Gas' external corrosion direct assessment (ECDA) application. The scope of the contract also includes GE Oil and Gas' PipeView Integrity software. GE's VAR, LogicaCMG, will implement the project.

GE's technology will be used by Comgas to manage its pipeline assets, as well as its pipeline integrity, including assessing risk, generating integrity management plans and managing ECDA projects. GE Oil and Gas' PipeView Integrity system will use the information collected by Smallworld Global Transmission Office.

"The functionality provided in our Smallworld Global Transmission Office software and the ability to synchronize with the customer's PODS database, coupled with the capabilities of PipeView Integrity and GE's expertise in ECDA, will allow Comgas to effectively and efficiently manage its pipeline assets," said Bob Gilligan, general manager of GE Energy's transmission and distribution business.

Comgas is the largest distributor of piped natural gas in Brazil. Its network comprises more than 4,000 kilometers of pipelines that deliver natural gas to more than 500,000 residential, retail and industrial customers in 57 cities. Its service area comprises 177 municipalities in metropolitan Sao Paulo, metropolitan Campinas, the coastal area around Santos (Baixada Santista) and the Paraba Valley, accounting for about a quarter of Brazil's gross domestic product.

``The company is confident of its business models even in a bleak scenario,'' Vikas Jadhav, analyst at Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd. in Mumbai, said in an interview. He recommends investors buy the stock. ``Sales were a bit subdued in the past quarter, but it seems to have managed the margins well.''

The path opens ahead of Logica's new chief

It is never easy, the relationship between a new boss and the person who filled the gap during the interregnum. That alone makes the goodwill exuded by LogicaCMG yesterday notable.

Jim McKenna, long-serving chief operating officer and board member at the information technology group, is stepping down. Mr McKenna was catapulted into the hot seat as interim chief executive when the ebullient, Shakespeare-spouting Martin Read made his unscheduled exit stage left last May. He must have fancied himself as a contender for the top job - and probably started to look elsewhere as soon as Andy Green from BT was appointed in October.

Awkward. But not as awkward as it would have been had one of the group's most experienced executives left when Mr Green had barely had a chance to get new business cards printed. Instead, Mr McKenna was convinced to stay on until the second half of the year, co-ordinating the creation of a new "global outsourcing services division".

The former BT executive had his first official outing with analysts only last week and will announce a date for a strategic review - just a date, mind - when LogicaCMG reports full-year results in a month's time. Detail of the new division is therefore understandably scant. Mr Green, who communicated the changes to staff via his newly established corporate blog, will have a lot more explaining to do.

But the idea of horizontal divisions fits with his broad vision. Mr Read built an empire of subsidiaries. They have strong local ties with customers but difficulty relating to one another. In its current form, LogicaCMG cannot beat Infosys for cost or IBM for scale. Mr Green wants to integrate the back-office, differentiate the group more clearly from the competition and sell the whole package - to be branded Logica everywhere - more aggressively, BT-style.

To do this, the new chief executive must slaughter some of old Logica's sacred cows. Mr McKenna, understandably, was spared the knife. But while Mr Green would be too diplomatic to put it this way, the fact that his chief operating officer is leaving will make it easier to push through the changes the company badly needs.

Amsterdam (BETTEN FINANCIAL NEWS) - Analist Richard Nguyen van Societe Generale herstart het volgen van LogicaCMG met een sell-advies. Het koersdoel bedraagt 90 pence.

Voor 2007 taxeert hij de winst per aandeel op 19,1 pence, voor 2008 op 9,2 pence en voor 2009 op 10,1 pence.

LogicaCMG creates new Outsourcing Services division to respond to customer demand

LogicaCMG is creating a new Outsourcing Services division, which develops its existing outsourcing model, in response to customer demand across Europe.

Jim McKenna, currently Chief Operating Officer, will lead the creation of the new division. It will become operational in key European geographies from Q1 2008 and will be in place across the whole organisation by 2009.

European customers are increasingly demanding a global delivery model. The new division will take end-to-end responsibility for outsourcing services, ensuring that customers have access to the most efficient and cost effective blend of onshore, nearshore and offshore support. It will provide outsourcing sales and design specialists to all LogicaCMG’s customers via our local organisations. It will accelerate the standardisation of tools and processes and drive efficiencies across the organisation.

This division will incorporate around 9,000 LogicaCMG employees working today in our onshore, nearshore and offshore centres across the globe.

Outsourcing services currently represent around a third of LogicaCMG’s revenue. It is estimated* that, by 2011, a majority of the average corporation’s IT budget will be spent on outsourcing providers. The creation of this new division will allow us to evolve our outsourcing offering to ensure we can be flexible in meeting the differing needs of our customers across Europe.

Our largest offshore centres in India, Morocco and the Philippines today are an important element of delivering outsourcing services to customers and we expect these to continue to grow. We also expect growth in our onshore centres and in nearshore centres like the Czech Republic. This allows us to meet the varying language and cultural needs of our customers.

LogicaCMG’s outsourcing services offering includes applications management, infrastructure management, outsourcing of ERP implementation and testing. The group has developed competency centres which are delivering services today in the areas of: SAP shared services, remote infrastructure management, financial services and telecoms products development, and managed testing.

Belgische LogicaCMG vangt ziek kind op

Belgische werknemers van LogicaCMG kunnen hun zieke kind onderbrengen bij hun werkgever. LogicaCMG gaat daartoe een samenwerkingsverband aan met Vedior. Het bedrijf hoopt zo op een betere werk/privé-balans voor het personeel.

Werknemers van de Belgische vestiging van LogicaCMG kunnen hun zieke kinderen meenemen naar het bedrijf. De dienstverlener start op 1 februari een pilotproject waarbij het bedrijf de zieke kinderen van werknemers opvangt. LogicaCMG werkt daarvoor samen met uitzendbureau Vedior. Personeelsleden die een ziek kind hebben, moeten een 0800-nummer bellen. Vedior biedt dan 'op zeer korte termijn' een oplossing voor opvang.

Het bedrijf hoopt zich zo te profileren als een onderneming die zorgt voor een betere werk/privé balans. "Er is een werkgroep opgericht binnen het bedrijf om de uitdagingen voor vrouwelijke medewerkers in de ict-sector in kaart te brengen. Daar kwam duidelijk naar voren dat het niet eenvoudig is een goed evenwicht te vinden tussen werk en privé, niet alleen voor vrouwen, maar ook voor mannen", zegt het bedrijf tegen het Belgische persbureau Belga.

Een woordvoerder van LogicaCMG zegt desgevraagd tegen Computable dat het project vooralsnog alleen in België is gestart. In Nederland zijn er geen plannen om een dergelijke kinderopvang op te zetten

Troubled LogicaCMG hopes for rub of the Green

As luck would have it he didn’t actually take the chief’s chair until 1 January – and to be fair, even if he had taken the helm sooner, LogicaCMG’s recent tumble could not be pinned on him, just as he can’t be blamed for the further 10% decline in January. But the falling price gives an indication of the task ahead – and cannot be wholly attributed to the broader slide in technology stocks of late.

LogicaCMG had a bumpy 2007. Martin Read, at the helm for 14 years, resigned in May after another in a series of profit warnings. Management embarked on a questionable share buyback that, particularly after prices weakened following downbeat guidance issued in November, resulted in a significant paper loss.

Among other issues is legal action – which LogicaCMG has challenged – brought by T-Mobile for what it claims is failure to deliver on a contract. It also has a task ahead integrating acquisitions of recent years including Unilog and WM-data, the French and Swedish IT businesses it bought in 2006 in moves transforming it into Europe’s second-biggest computer services company by valuation.

Green is wasting little time turning the business around, conducting a review with plans to unveil a restructure within months. He has apparently been well-received at the company and the initial reaction to his October appointment has shown that investors, too, believe the former head of BT’s Global Services division is the right man for the job.

But his restructuring of a company that has lost momentum while expanding aggressively will be the real test. And from that point on, LogicaCMG’s value will rest fairly and squarely on his shoulders.

ING and Mastercard to develop Mobile Payments solution

ING Payments Retail Europe announced today at the Mobey Forum in Amsterdam, their plans to partner with MasterCard Worldwide in the development of a Mobile Payments solution that focuses specifically on consumer convenience. The design will provide the consumer with flexibility and control over the Mobile Payments application used for small purchases.

The solution can be seen as the equivalent of carrying a debit or credit card in a consumer’s phone and uses near field communication (NFC) based technology. This enables the consumer to pay for low value purchases by tapping the mobile phone to a specially-equipped terminal. Consumers simply Tap & Go™ to pay. NFC is based on a short-range wireless connectivity, and designed for intuitive, simple and safe interaction between electronic devices. The solution will feature an easy-to-use mobile account that gives users access to their balance and enables them to top-up their balance immediately by using
‘Over–the-Air’ reload functionalities.

Mark Buitenhek, General Manager ING Payments Retail Europe said: “Along with a wallet, the mobile phone is the second item consumers always carry with them. Uniting these two increases the level of convenience for our customers. The ING and MasterCard Worldwide Mobile Payments solution is the first solution that makes use of the ‘Over-the-Air’ functionalities and could be an example for future standards.”

ING and MasterCard Worldwide in close cooperation with Collis, Venyon, Toro and LogicaCMG will further develop this Mobile Payments solution. ING is exploring possible locations to test this solution. More announcements about the next steps will follow in due course.

Flinke groei ICT-sector

WOERDEN - De ICT-sector is in Nederland vorig jaar met 4,2 procent gegroeid. De bestedingen aan zaken als software, printers, telecomapparatuur en aanverwante diensten stegen naar 30 miljard euro.

Vooral softwarebedrijven groeiden hard, blijkt uit cijfers die de Nederlandse ICT-branche dinsdag naar buiten heeft gebracht. Hier nam de omzet met 9,5 procent toe.

De telecom- en internetsector bleef achter met een groei van 1,4 procent. Dit kwam door dalende bestedingen aan vaste telefonie.

Dit jaar gaat branchevereniging ICT-Office uit van een groei van 2,9 procent voor de gehele branche.

Henk Broeders, voorzitter bestuur ICT~Office, geeft toelichting op de marktontwikkelingen van 2007 en 2008.

“Met genoegen kijk ik terug op de marktontwikkeling voor de ICT-branche in 2007. Het positieve economische klimaat leidde tot meer vraag naar het bedenken en implementeren van ICT-oplossingen. Het is zaak om hierin te blijven investeren, gezien het belang van de branche voor de economische groei in Nederland en de bijdrage die ICT kan leveren in het oplossen van maatschappelijke knelpunten. We verwachten ook voor 2008 een groei die hoger ligt dan de groei van de Nederlandse economie.

Wisselend beeld
De ICT-branche laat over 2007 een wisselend beeld zien. We voorspelden een groei van 4,3% voor de IT-sector in 2007. Deze is met 7,6% nog hoger dan verwacht. Met name de bestedingen in de industriële bedrijven lieten een belangrijke groei zien. Daar verwachten we ook dit jaar de groei voor de IT-sector, ondanks teruglopende bestedingen bij de overheid en binnen de zakelijke dienstverlening. Het softwaresegment groeide vorig jaar met maar liefst 9,5%. Met name de groeiende vraag naar applicatiesoftware is hiervan de oorzaak. Het positieve economische klimaat leidde vorig jaar tot een toename van ICT-investeringen. Steeds meer bedrijven integreren ICT in hun kernactiviteiten, waardoor hun productiviteit toeneemt en daarmee hun bijdrage aan de economische groei.

De bestedingen aan IT-hardware groeiden in 2007 met 6,4% maar de marges bleven onder druk staan. Bedrijven actief in de kantoortechnologie blijven in zwaar weer. Dit geldt met name voor ondernemingen actief in kantoorhardware voor netwerktoepassingen. De bestedingen groeiden daar slechts met 0,7%.

De telecom- en internetsector groeide met 1,4% meer dan de verwachte 1%. Ondanks de stijging van de toepassing van mobiele communicatie is deze stijging van de afzet niet sterk zichtbaar in de bestedingscijfers (+ 0,9%). De grote concurrentie drukt de prijzen in de markt en daarnaast is vanuit de Europese Unie een verlaging ingezet van de internationale beltarieven. Ook de ontwikkeling dat met mobiele telefonie tegen lagere kosten gebeld kan worden vanuit huis of vanuit het bedrijfsnetwerk, drukt de groei in de bestedingsomvang. Voor dit jaar is de verwachting een groei van 0,2%.

De krimp in vaste telefonie gaat onverminderd door. In 2007 trad daarin een versnelling op, te weten een daling van 4,5%. Voor dit jaar verwachten we een verdere daling van 4,7%. Het gaat echter goed met de vaste datadiensten, die vorig jaar sterk boven verwachting toenamen met 6,9%. Ook de bestedingen aan data- en netwerkapparatuur namen toe en wel met 4,7%. De IT- en telecomaanbieders groeien steeds meer naar elkaar toe en dit maakt, in combinatie met de hevige concurrentie, dat er een nieuwe markt ontstaat die de komende jaren sterk in beweging blijft.

Mijlpaal ICT~Milieu
De Stichting ICT~Milieu heeft in 2007 weer meer gebruikte ICT-apparatuur ingezameld en gerecycled dan het jaar daarvoor: 20 miljoen kilo ten opzichte van 18 miljoen kilo in 2006. Het inzamelsysteem bereikte in januari dit jaar een belangrijke mijlpaal. Sinds de start in 1999 is de grens van 100.000.000 kilo gepasseerd. Het bestuur van ICT~Milieu blijft werken aan een verdere kostenverlaging voor de deelnemers.

ICT~Haalbaarheidstoets
Een belangrijke ontwikkeling is de toenemende samenwerking met de overheid, die in 2007 werd bekrachtigd met een gezamenlijke verklaring. Deze moet leiden tot meer succesvolle overheidsprojecten, meer innovatie door ICT en een hoger aandeel van het MKB in de ICT-overheidsaanbestedingen. We verwachten veel van de ICT~Haalbaarheidstoets: een advies dat ICT~Office opstelt namens de aangesloten ICT-bedrijven en dat in een vroegtijdig stadium aangeeft of een gewenst ICT-project tot een succes leidt.

ICT~Office heeft vorig jaar samen met VNO-NCW de ICT~Verklaring uitgegeven. Deze geeft concreet aan welke kabinetsdoelstellingen zijn te realiseren met hulp van innovatieve ICT-toepassingen. Hoewel het regeerakkoord ICT erkent als belangrijk middel voor de aanpak van maatschappelijke knelpunten en versterking van onze economie, komt het in de praktijk helaas nog niet verder dan enkele experimenten. Positief is dat de ICT Personality van 2006, Jan Kees de Jager, vorig jaar is benoemd tot staatssecretaris van Financiën. De branche heeft daarmee een pleitbezorger in het kabinet.

Arbeidsmarkt
De arbeidsmarkt blijft een bron van zorg. Dit jaar start ICT~Office een meerjarenprogramma dat tot doel heeft de aansluiting van het ICT-onderwijs op de arbeidsmarkt te verbeteren en bij te dragen aan een positief imago van werken in de ICT-branche. Terugdringing van het tekort op de arbeidsmarkt is een voorwaarde om de groei vast te houden en ons verder te kunnen ontwikkelen.

WCIT 2010
Al lijkt het nog ver weg, de voorbereidingen zijn in volle gang voor het World Congres on IT dat in 2010 plaatsheeft in Amsterdam. Samen met de gemeente Amsterdam, het ministerie van Economische Zaken en partners uit het veld werkt ICT~Office aan een beleidsagenda die toewerkt naar dit topevenement. Een belangrijke tussenstap is de handelsmissie in mei dit jaar naar Maleisië tijdens het WCIT 2008 aldaar.

Het thema van WCIT 2010 is Challenges of Change. Het verwijst naar de kansen die er (mondiaal) liggen om ICT in te zetten bij grote maatschappelijke en economische veranderingen. Een nieuw betaalsysteem kan de privacy van automoblisten waarborgen bij de invoering van de kilometerheffing. Daarmee is een van de grote struikelblokken weggenomen. Siemens en LogicaCMG hebben samen een 'anonieme kaart' ontwikkeld. 'Door een soort prepaidkaart voor het gps-kastje in de auto te houden, wordt alleen het tarief van de weg doorgegeven en niet meer het kenteken', zegt Anne Tip van LogicaCMG. 'Zo kan de automobilist zelf bepalen of hij traceerbaar is.'

'Anoniem rekeningrijden mogelijk'

AMSTERDAM - Anoniem rekeningrijden met de auto is mogelijk. Automatiseerder LogicaCMG heeft samen met elektronicabedrijf Siemens een systeem ontwikkeld waarbij de gereden route onbekend blijft.

Dat heeft een woordvoerder van LogicaCMG woensdag bevestigd naar aanleiding van een bericht in De Telegraaf.

LogicaCMG en Siemens trekken samen op in de hoop straks de opdracht binnen te halen van het ministerie van Verkeer en Waterstaat voor het systeem dat rekeningrijden in Nederland mogelijk moet maken. Ook veel andere bedrijven in binnen- en buitenland hebben hun interesse getoond.

Prijs

Volgens de woordvoerder van LogicaCMG is het systeem gebaseerd op het gegeven dat voor verschillende wegen dezelfde kilometerprijs wordt berekend.

Met een prepaidkaart worden wel de gereden kilometers afgerekend, maar blijft de route 'geheim'. De automoblist moet de kaart kunnen kopen in bijvoorbeeld supermarkten en tankstations.

Systemen

LogicaCMG kan niet aangeven of het scheelt in prijs om wel of niet anoniem te rijden. "Daarvoor is het nog veel te vroeg. Dit is een van de mogelijke systemen", aldus de woordvoerder.

De Tweede Kamer praat woensdag over het rekeningrijden. Het privacy-aspect is een van de vraagstukken die moeten worden opgelost bij het ontwerpen van systemen in de strijd tegen files.

Toekomstige ict-ers leren wat ze kunnen met hun kennis

Deze week verwelkomde ict-dienstverlener LogicaCMG een nieuwe lichting van 115 ict-studenten in haar afstudeerprogramma ‘Working Tomorrow’, dat draait om innovatie en persoonlijke ontwikkeling. In de laatste fase van de opleiding leert de jongste generatie ict-ers wat ze kan met kennis. Het programma van zes tot negen maanden laat de professionals van morgen zelfstandig aan de slag gaan met innovatieve concepten en prototypes.

De studenten zijn projectleider van hun eigen project waarin ze technologiën zoals rfid, biometrie en draadloze sensornetwerken toetsen op haalbaarheid en commerciële kansen. Ze onderzoeken de technische, zakelijke en maatschappelijke factoren die een rol spelen bij de implementatie van innovaties bij klanten van LogicaCMG. Daarin worden ze begeleid door een ict-architect, experts uit de business units en een projectmanager.

Theo Borgert, managing director HR bij LogicaCMG Nederland: "Ik zie de aansluiting tussen ict-opleiding en het bedrijfsleven sterk verbeteren. Opleidingsinstituten verdiepen zich meer in de producten en diensten van ict-dienstverleners, en werkgevers begrijpen dat ze de opleiders moeten helpen om dienstverleners en ondernemers te maken van technici en theoretici. LogicaCMG doet dat onder meer met Working Tomorrow, waarin we studenten het zelfvertrouwen willen geven dat ze goed voorbereid de arbeidsmarkt op gaan.”

Na een selectieprocedure worden de studenten -op basis van hun kennis en belangstelling- toegevoegd aan een business unit van LogicaCMG, waarin ze meedraaien als een normale medewerker. De afstudeerders hebben hun eigen etage in een kantoorpand van LogicaCMG en creëren daar een atmosfeer waarin studentikoze ‘creativiteit’ wordt vermengd met zakelijke verantwoordelijkheid en productiviteit.

LogicaCMG heeft zeven Working Tomorrow-locaties verspreid over het land (Amstelveen, Rotterdam, Rijswijk, Nieuwegein, Eindhoven, Arnhem en Groningen). Per jaar starten er, verdeeld over twee semesters, ongeveer 180 hbo- en universitaire studenten aan hun afstudeeronderzoek. Elk jaar wordt de Working Tomorrow Graduate Award uitgereikt aan twee veelbelovende studenten.
