Over the last several weeks, President Donald Trump has approached the White House press podium with one resounding message: The coronavirus vaccine is just around the corner and it will soon make its way to Americans across the country.

But behind closed doors, Trump’s closest advisers, including those officials working on the White House coronavirus task force, are increasingly concerned about public confidence in the vaccine process. Now, White House officials are leaning on the nation’s governors to help promote the vaccine’s safety and efficacy.

On a private call with governors Monday, Vice President Mike Pence and other top coronavirus task force officials—including Anthony Fauci and Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Robert Redfield—aired their fears about the declining public support for taking a COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available. And they explicitly asked governors to ignore the politics of the impending election when discussing COVID-19 vaccines, even as Trump himself does not.

“Look, I know we’re in an election season. But what I want to do is challenge you governors,” Pence said. “We are working around the clock to get a safe and effective vaccine available but we need... you to do your part to build public confidence that it will be a safe and effective vaccine. What we don’t want is people undermining confidence in the process.”

The worries stated on the call echo a deeper fear among scientists and other top officials working with the task force that the American public has lost trust in the nation’s top health agencies.

Part of that lack of confidence seems to stem from the president himself, who has in recent weeks promised the quick delivery of a vaccine. Trump more recently conceded that the American public can expect to access a vaccine by April next year, but he has also stated that the clinical trial data indicates that the U.S. will soon have a viable vaccine.

“He has all of his eggs in the vaccine basket,” said Elizabeth Neumann, a former top Department of Homeland Security official who worked on the office’s coronavirus response before she left the administration this year. “He’s not interested in masks, or social distancing. He likes the quick, easy fix. And anybody that looks at what it takes to deploy a vaccine and deliver a vaccine… it is not quick and easy by any stretch of the imagination.”

Within the upper echelons of HHS, the White House, and elsewhere in the Trump administration, officials are already rushing to figure out the best public-relations strategies to convince Americans of a vaccine’s efficacy. And there is a growing consensus, particularly among public-health professionals, that President Trump should be excluded from that push as much as possible, according to two senior administration officials.

Some believe it would be best to minimize the damage that could come from the matter being further politicized, which Trump’s involvement guarantees. Others say that Trump himself has been a menace to conveying accurate public-health information to citizens and the media during the pandemic, and wish he’d stop talking about the prospect of a vaccine altogether.

“Even if you support the president, why would it make sense to have him out there trying to sell a vaccine to millions of skeptical Americans?” said one of the officials, who’s worked closely with the coronavirus task force. “Many people would immediately be turned off, or at least suspicious, just by seeing him doing it… even if all the scientists were saying it absolutely was safe for you and your family.”

Trump holds narrow lead among senior sunshine voters

Arizona and Florida are destinations for many retirees who often seek sunshine and lower costs of living. One-quarter or more of registered voters in each state are 65 or older, a group that also has an outsize impact as they turn out at higher rates.

According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released Wednesday, in Florida, Trump has a narrow edge over Biden, 52 percent to 44 percent, among likely voters 65 and older. The eight-point edge is considered narrow because of the larger margin of error as a result of the sample size of the subset. In 2016, Trump won seniors in Florida by a 17-percentage-point margin, according to network exit polling.

The Post-ABC poll found that in Arizona, Trump also narrowly leads Biden among seniors, by 10 points, 54 percent to 44 percent. Trump won voters 65 and older by 13 points in 2016 in Arizona.

Senior registered voters in both states are more likely to be White and to lean toward the Republican Party than younger voters.

About 8 in 10 senior registered voters in both states are White, a stark contrast from younger voters. In Arizona, about half of voters under 40 are White. In Florida, just about 4 in 10 voters under 40 are White.

In the race for the White House, former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump 52 - 42 percent among likely voters in a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea-ack) University national poll released today. Those numbers are unchanged from a September 2nd national poll when Biden led Trump 52 - 42 percent.

"Voters think Biden is smarter, more honest, more level headed, and cares more about Americans than the president. And that, in part, translates into a ten-point lead," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

Likely voters give Biden better scores than Trump on six personal traits, as they say:
49 - 43 percent that Biden is honest, and 59 - 35 percent that Trump is not honest;
50 - 42 percent that Biden has good leadership skills, and 55 - 43 percent that Trump does not;
58 - 36 percent that Biden cares about average Americans, and 53 - 45 percent that Trump does not;
56 - 37 percent that Biden is level headed, and 61 - 36 percent that Trump is not level headed;
65 - 30 percent that Biden is intelligent, and 52 - 44 percent that Trump is also intelligent;
A split 49 - 47 percent that Biden does not share their values, and 56 - 41 percent that Trump does not share their values.
BIDEN VS. TRUMP: THE ISSUES

Likely voters were asked who would do a better job handling five issues:
On handling the economy, Trump 49 percent, Biden 48 percent;
On handling the military, Biden 49 percent, Trump 46 percent;
On keeping you and your family safe, Biden 51 percent, Trump 44 percent;
On handling the response to the coronavirus, Biden 55 percent, Trump 39 percent;
On handling racial inequality, Biden 56 percent, Trump 36 percent.

Die uitspraak onderbouwt niet jouw bewering dat zij rechts-radicaal is, laat staan dat het onderbouwt dat de 'handvol' andere rechters rechts-radicaal zijn.

Donald Trump heeft zijn positie als president gebruikt om zich te beschermen tegen meerdere rechtszaken. Dit omvat een diepe sonde in zijn Trump Organization die wordt uitgevoerd door het kantoor van de procureur-generaal van New York.

Om de een of andere reden dacht Eric Trump dat hij de bescherming van zijn vader kon gebruiken voor eigen gebruik. Hij weigerde te komen opdagen voor een gedagvaard interview terug in medio juli en is blijven vertragen. Vandaag zei het Hooggerechtshof van New York dat de zoon van de president zijn getuigenis niet meer kan ontwijken.

De procureur-generaal van New York, Letitia James zei onlangs in een verklaring: "Niets zal ons ervan weerhouden de feiten en de wet te volgen, waar ze ook heen kunnen leiden. Maandenlang heeft de Trump Organization ongefundeerde beweringen gedaan in een poging om bewijs te beschermen tegen een wettig onderzoek naar haar financiële transacties. Ze hebben documenten tegengehouden, achtergehouden en getuigen, waaronder Eric Trump, opgedragen te weigeren vragen onder ede te beantwoorden."

De advocaten van Eric Trump betoogden dat Eric Trump pas na de verkiezingen moet verschijnen. Ze schreven in een memo: "We kunnen niet toestaan dat het gevraagde interview om vooruit te gaan ... op grond van de rechten die aan ieder individu krachtens de Grondwet worden toegekend."

President Donald Trump lijkt zijn achterstand op Joe Biden in te lopen in de belangrijke schommelstaten Florida en Arizona. Wat is er gebeurd en wat zegt dat over de kansen voor het presidentschap?

Hoewel peilingen weinig voorspellende waarde hebben wie er uiteindelijk president wordt, zijn de laatste cijfers toch een opsteker voor Trump. De zittend president heeft ineens een kleine voorsprong op Biden als gekeken wordt naar mensen die zeggen echt van plan te zijn om op 3 november te gaan stemmen. Biden ligt nog wel op kop als gekeken wordt naar het gemiddelde van alle stemgerechtigden. Maar daar heeft hij niks aan als zij niet naar de stembus gaan.

Volgens het laatste kiezersonderzoek van Washington Post en ABC News ligt Trump 4 procentpunten voor in Florida; de zittend president krijgt volgens die peiling 51 procent van de stemmen en Biden 47 procent. De voorsprong valt wel binnen de foutmarge. Dat betekent dat de werkelijke uitkomst ook in het voordeel van zijn rivaal kan uitvallen.
Arizona

Hetzelfde geldt voor de peiling in Arizona: daar ligt Trump nu op kop met 49 procent, terwijl 48 procent van de kiezers die zeggen dat ze naar de stembus gaan op Biden zou stemmen. Dit verschil van 1 procent is wederom dat zo klein is dat er geen grote uitspraken over gedaan kunnen worden.

Maar dat het een nek-aan-nek race wordt voor Trump en Biden ligt nu wel meer voor de hand. In 2016 won Trump de schommelstaten Florida en Arizona ook met een verschil van slechts enkele procentpunten: In Florida versloeg hij Hillary Clinton destijds met 1,2 procent verschil en in Arizona kreeg hij slechts 3,6 procent meer stemmen."

In the midst of a global pandemic and major recession, the Trump Administration and 18 state attorneys general are expected to file briefs this week asking the Supreme Court to strike down the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA). President Trump affirmed his commitment to his Administration’s stance last month, saying “we want to terminate health care under Obamacare.”[1] Striking down the law would cause millions to lose their health coverage, while delivering a large tax cut to the highest-income Americans and certain corporations.

The highest-income 0.1 percent (1 in 1,000) households would receive tax cuts averaging about $198,000 per year, the Tax Policy Center estimates.[4] (See Figure 1.) This group has annual incomes over $3 million.
Households with annual incomes over $1 million would receive tax cuts averaging about $42,000 per year.
Tax cuts for households with incomes over $200,000 would cost the federal government a total of about $30 billion in 2020. That’s over one-third of the federal cost of the ACA’s expansion of Medicaid to low-income adults, meaning that it could pay for health coverage for over 4 million people.

Gouverneur Mike Parson uit Missouri test positief op coronavirus

De gouverneur van Missouri, Mike Parson (R) en First Lady Teresa Parson, testten positief op het coronavirus, maakte het kantoor van de gouverneur woensdag bekend.

Het grote plaatje: de 65-jarige Parson is de tweede gouverneur waarvan bekend is dat hij COVID-19 heeft gecontracteerd, na de Oklahoma-gouverneur Kevin Stitt (R). De regering van Ohio, Mike DeWine (R), testte positief in augustus voorafgaand aan een ontmoeting met president Trump, maar later werd vastgesteld dat het een vals positief was.

De stand van zaken: De first lady werd getest "na het vertonen van lichte symptomen", voordat Parson, die geen symptomen vertoonde, zelf een test deed.
Volgens het persbericht blijft hij "zonder onderbreking" werken.
De staf van de gouverneur is getest en wacht op de resultaten.

Vermeldenswaard: Parson heeft zich in zijn staat tegen een maskermandaat verzet. Hij zei eerder: "Je hoeft de overheid niet te vertellen dat je een masker moet dragen."
